Ministries at Highland
These are a few of the ministries that
we have here at Highland
to serve our community.
Benevolence
We have a benevolence ministry wherein
we provide assistance
to those in need.
Celebrate Recovery - C.A.S.A.
Christians Against Substance Abuse. A 12
Step recovery program. Meetings are held every Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
The
Highland Church of Christ offers a class we refer to
as "Celebrate Recovery" C.A.S.A. (Christians Against
Substance Abuse) and meetings are held here at the church every Wednesday evening
at 6:00 p.m.
Celebrate
Recovery is composed of those who are recovering from addictive, compulsive, or
codependent behavior patterns. Although C.A.S.A. implies Christians in
Recovery, you do not have to be a Christian to receive benefit. If you do
consider yourself a Christian, the benefit to you will increase, as you will
likely discover a whole new dimension to your faith, the healing dimension.
C.A.S.A.
uses the "12-steps", the same set of principles used by programs such
as Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), Adult Children of Alcoholics, and Codependents
Anonymous. The root of the 12-steps is in scripture. These steps
aid us in "Giving-up", Cleaning-up", "Making-up", and
"Keeping-up". We in C.A.S.A. believe that any dysfunctional
relationship in our past, any sin struggle we currently face, or any sin that
has overcome us now, can be addressed with the Word of God. And, that the
God of the ancient scripture is the same God that lives today, that loves us,
and has the healing power to transform our lives. All we have to do is be
willing and show up.
The
"substance abuse" can be much broader than alcohol or other
drugs,
for example:
Cleanliness
Neatness
Credit
Pornography
Exercise
Relationships
Fame
Religion
Food
Sex
Gambling
TV
Hobbies
Work
Of course, the list can go on and on and...in the relationship category,
the "substance" abused is the individual that another person tries to
"fix" or control. It goes much further than legitimate caring
or honest concern. Behaviors that follow are not helpful to either party
involved. This is called Co-dependency and the same 12 steps can lead to
recovery.
C.A.S.A. is not intended to replace A.A., N.A., or other groups. C.A.S.A.
is unique in that it is in the church and designed specifically with struggling
Christians in mind. There is no smoking, cursing or vulgarity in our
meetings. The "Higher Power" is clearly God who revealed
himself through scripture. The Bible is often referred to for teaching,
reproof, correction,
and instruction in right living. (II Timothy 3:16-17)
If you or someone you love struggles with substance abuse please let us help
you. Contact the church at (606) 789-6433 or e-mail at hcoc@suddenlinkmail.net.
